Sixteen houses, sixteen personal stories told in pictures. Some of the houses were created on the architects’ own drawing boards, while others were centuries- old houses – and in one case a floating home – that were given a new lease of life. But all the interiors were conceived in the architects’ minds, and many were constructed using their own hands. Each and every one of these creations is a unique house because of its location, colours and materials, as well as the choice of furniture and art. The inhabitants came up with creative solutions for basic problems, designed building materials that were taken up in collections, shocked neighbours with their designs, bought a ruin or a dilapidated farm, or just opted for the most beautiful penthouse. We hunted them down in different parts of the Netherlands, ranging from the Randstad to the deepest provinces.
